There’s something about the first hint of autumn that makes us want to turn our attention back towards home. As the mornings become crisper and the evenings draw in, our interiors naturally begin to change too. Summer’s lighter colours and airy textures make way for warmer tones, deeper foliage and layers that make home feel a little cosier.
But decorating your home for autumn doesn’t need to mean pumpkins on every surface or completely changing your interior.
For us, it’s about a few thoughtful seasonal swaps.
Here are three simple ways to bring autumn into your home, starting right at the front door.
1. Start at the Front Door with an Autumn Wreath
If you make just one change for the season, make it your wreath.
An autumn wreath instantly changes the feeling of your home before you’ve even stepped through the door. It’s a simple way to mark the transition between seasons and create a warm welcome throughout the autumn months.
Look to the landscape for inspiration. Fallen leaves, fading hydrangeas, berries and branches all bring the beautiful colours and textures of the season to your front door.
Our Faux Fallen Leaves Wreath was inspired by a wreath Ashlee made using real leaves gathered from a tree outside her home. Rich in warm, changing tones, it recreates that wonderfully abundant look of freshly gathered autumn leaves, with the benefit of being an artificial autumn wreath you can bring out year after year.
For something softer, our Faux Dried Hydrangea Wreath captures hydrangeas at that beautiful moment when their summer colour begins to fade into muted pinks, greens and earthy tones.
Our styling tip
Don’t stop at the front door.
Autumn wreaths can look just as beautiful inside the home. Try hanging one above a fireplace, against a panelled wall or over a console table to create an understated seasonal focal point.

2. Swap Summer Stems for Deeper Autumn Foliage
You don’t need to replace every flower arrangement in your home when autumn arrives.
One of the easiest ways to transition your interior from summer to autumn is simply to change the colour and tone of your artificial flowers and foliage.
Put away some of the fresh whites and brighter greens you’ve enjoyed through spring and summer and introduce deeper shades of burgundy, mulberry, plum and warm brown instead.
Our Faux Burgundy Eucalyptus is one of our favourite stems for doing exactly this. The familiar shape of eucalyptus keeps an arrangement feeling relaxed and natural, while its deep burgundy colouring instantly introduces an autumnal feel.
For something lighter and more delicate, Faux Autumn Populus brings the colours of turning leaves indoors while still adding plenty of movement. Our Faux Fig Branch, meanwhile, is wonderfully sculptural and works beautifully when you want something slightly bolder.
Think foliage first
If you’re creating an artificial autumn flower arrangement from scratch, start with your foliage.
Use larger branches to establish the overall shape, allowing some stems to sit higher and others to fall more naturally to the sides. Once you’re happy with the silhouette, introduce your focal flowers and smaller filler stems.
And don’t make it too perfect.
Real branches don’t grow symmetrically, so varying the height, angle and direction of your faux stems is one of the easiest ways to make artificial flowers look more realistic.
For an even simpler update, take an arrangement you already love and swap just two or three of its greener stems for autumn foliage. Sometimes that’s all it takes to completely change its mood.

3. Introduce Warmer Textures Through Cushions & Soft Furnishings
Autumn decorating isn’t only about colour.
Texture can have just as much impact on how a room feels.
Where spring and summer interiors often suit lighter fabrics, autumn is the perfect time to introduce richer materials such as velvet, embroidery and heavier woven textures.
Start with your cushions.
Swapping a few lighter cushion covers for deeper colours and more tactile fabrics can instantly make a sofa, armchair or bed feel warmer and more inviting — without changing the furniture or redecorating the room.
Rather than choosing several cushions that are exactly the same, try layering different textures together. A soft velvet beside an embroidered cushion creates contrast and depth, while a woven fabric can bring a slightly more relaxed feel.
Look beyond traditional autumn colours
Autumn home décor doesn’t have to mean orange and brown.
Look outside and you’ll find a much broader palette: burgundy, plum, mossy greens, faded pinks, tobacco, ochre and warm neutrals.
Choosing these more nuanced shades means your autumn cushions and soft furnishings can complement the rest of your home rather than feeling like temporary seasonal decorations.
Then layer in the finishing touches you already own, a favourite throw, warm lamp light, candles, natural wood or a few aged brass accessories.
It’s those small layers that create the feeling of autumn.

You Don’t Need to Change Everything
The best seasonal interiors rarely feel overly styled.
Instead, choose a few places around your home where a change will have the biggest impact.
Start at the front door with an autumn wreath. Bring the season inside with deeper-toned artificial flowers and faux autumn foliage. Then add warmth through richer cushions, fabrics and texture.
Three simple changes, but together they can completely shift the feeling of your home.
Because autumn isn’t really about decorating for a season.
It’s about that feeling of coming home after a crisp Sunday walk, shutting the door behind you and settling into somewhere warm and cosy.
And, for us, that’s what nesting for autumn is all about.
